Based on experience and practical methods of enamel technology development in the 1960s and 1970s, the initial German standard/paper was based on this ratio: magnesium anode surface area/liner surface area 2:100 (2%). In other words, there should be 200cm of new magnesium anodes for every 1 square meter (10,000 cm) of enamel surface.
This number is either a strict rule or tells us a general direction to follow, but it must be made clear that the best value depends on the quality of the enamel, and our tracking over the past year shows that a rate lower than 2% is acceptable.
It must also be noted that this value becomes less and less important in improving the life of the magnesium anode in the tank, since the magnesium anode consumption is the result of self-corrosion and corrosion used to produce protection.
It is clear from past interpretations that the total length of the magnesium anode will affect this ratio, that is, the ratio of magnesium positive surface area to tank surface area. The longer the magnesium anode, the greater the ratio of magnesium anode surface area to tank surface area. The length of the magnesium anode determines the weight and service life of the magnesium anode.
The us commercial standard cs115-601 "' from 196() requires 27 fly magnesium anodes to protect 1m2 enamel surface area, while the German standard DIN4753 part iii provides for 200g/m2 enamel surface area.
According to the above criteria, the minimum weight of the magnesium anode is automatically calculated as a ratio of 1.5-2.0% of the surface area of the magnesium anode to the surface area of the enamel liner for the 22mm and 33mm diameter magnesium anodes.
