What is the brief history of the development of magnesium?

Magnesium anode: The metal magnesium has experienced a history of 1% years (1808 -2004) from its discovery to the present, and its industrial production has been 118 years (1886-2004). During those 118 years, magnesium developed in three stages:
(1) Chemical method stage. Magnesium was isolated from magnesium chloride in 1808 by the British scientist H. Davey. In 1929, French scientist A. Bussey used potassium or sodium vapor reduction melting magnesium chloride to get magnesium metal. Only in the 1860s did Britain and the United States begin to get more magnesium chemically. This period lasted for 78 years (1808 and 1886), but it did not develop into an industrial scale.
(2) Molten salt electrolysis stage. In 1830, British scientist iUrl. Faraday first used electrolytic melting grasp magnesium method to obtain pure magnesium. In 1852, P. Ben made a detailed study of this method in the laboratory, and it was not until 1886 that the industrial production of magnesium began in Germany. After 1886, the demand for magnesium increased. Since the 1970s, the dehydration and electrolysis of magnesium chloride in brine in HC1 gas has become an advanced process.
(3) Thermal reduction stage. Due to the increasing demand of magnesium, the production of magnesium by electrolysis method can not meet the demand of magnesium, so many scientists have studied the thermal reduction method of magnesium refining on the basis of chemical method. Vacuum thermal reduction method for refining magnesium by gripping magnesium was started in 1913. The first use of silicon as A reducing agent was made in 1924 by 11.x A.. Alashev owes it to him. In 1932, Angelin, Alashev with aluminum silicon alloy as reducing agent to reduce magnesium chloride. 1941 Toront, Canada. University professor L. M. Pijiang set up a test plant to make magnesium by reducing satin-fired dolomite with ferrosilicon in Hantaihua and achieved success. In 1942, the Canadian government established a silicon thermal magnesium refinery at Halley Dolomite mine with an annual output of 5000t of magnesium metal. Pijiang process has become the second largest method for industrial magnesium refining.
In 1947, France began to study the semi-continuous production of silicon thermal process of magnesium refining process. In 1950, an expanded test furnace was established. In 1959, the first semi-continuous thermal silicon magnesium plant with a daily production of 2T magnesium was built, and in 1971, the production was expanded to 9600T magnesium. Semi-continuous magnesium smelting (i.e. slag conducting semi-continuous reduction furnace) has become one of the advanced technological methods in magnesium industrial production.
